So it’s been a fairly predictable week for news (except for that musket robbery). Santa has come and gone and the turkeys are now making fine soups, stews, and sandwiches. Delicious.
What I’m not fond of are those turkeys that slug back a few drinks then get behind the wheel of a car. Let me tell you, it’s been hard enough driving around town in this storm without without worrying about people who have had too much Christmas “Cheer”.
I know what you’re thinking, it’s 2010, surely drunk driving has been nearly eliminated. Well think again – here are three stories from from the past few days.
- Woman driving outlying road at 3x the legal limit
- Ex-Premier’s son charged with running down friend
- and the weirdest: Drunk man steals other drunk man’s car
And that’s only what’s been reported in the media. Imagine what the general public has seen! One friend told me about hearing the sound of trees breaking followed moments later by a knock on his door. He was greeted by a drunken woman holding a case of beer. “I’m jusss gonna leave my car here if thass ok.” Her car had cut a 6 foot wide path through the woods and was resting on his lawn.
But that’s insignificant compared to the loss of life. Trees can be replaced – loved ones can’t. So if you even suspect that you might be drinking during your holiday visits, leave the car at home.
