Famous Hollywood actor Russell Crowe showed his love for Newfoundland entertainment this past weekend when he recommended the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival to acquaintances on twitter. Part of the exchange is posted below.

Even our own Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea got in on the conversation, promoting the George St. Festival. Great Big Sea plays that particular festival on July 28th.

Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival volunteer opportunity:

A press release on the Folk Festival website mentions that they are in need of volunteers:

This year all the registration of volunteers will be done through an online system and can be found at www.nlfolkfestival.com. Volunteers will be assigned on a first come, first served basis and no submissions will be accepted after July 8, 2011. If unable to complete the online form, you can do so by telephone. Please call the office at (709) 576-8508 by June 20th and ask to speak to Charlotte.

The festival takes place August 5-7th. It might be a chance to rub elbows with some famous “folks”.

  1. Russell’s been here a number of times. He did a surprise show down at O’Reilly’s once, just on a regular night. And I love Alan’s comment – Dandy Jam!

    • You never know what you’re going to see at O’Reilly’s. I Once saw the band Big Sugar watching another band’s show form the balcony. On another occasion I was enjoying some pub food when the table next to us all broke out Fiddles and started playing!
